Introduction

Zen Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork practice developed by Shizuto Masunaga in the 20th century. Drawing on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the refined tradition of Japanese meridian therapy, it offers a quiet, hands-on approach that supports the body's natural capacity for recovery.

Therapeutic method

The client lies on a traditional soft Japanese futon, fully clothed.  The practitioner uses supportive pressure, a unique element of Shizuto Masunaga's Zen Shiatsu treatment, to bring the meridians into balance and gently stimulate the client's vital energy (ki).

The treatment lasts around 45 minutes.  There is time to rest at the end.

Client experience

Typical experiences include a sense of deep relaxation, calm, renewed energy, focus, and greater clarity.  Clients may feel more grounded, lighter, or more settled the next day.

Zen Shiatsu offers a restorative space for the body and mind, and an opportunity to step out of the demands of a busy world.
